I am pleased to announce the Board of Trustees has approved the following faculty for sabbatical leave during academic year 2025-2026:
UIS field stations help students engage in active learning outside the classroom
The following column was written by UIS professor Thomas Rothfus, director of the UIS Therkildsen Field Station at Emiquon and the UIS Field Station at Lake Springfield, and published by the Illinois Times on Feb. 24, 2025.
“The idea of a field station is not a familiar one to most people. Field stations serve as a home base for researchers and students seeking to understand the surrounding environment and its relationship to the rest of the world. They are also sites of education and outreach and play a vital role in training students.”

Parking Lot and Pedestrian Crosswalk Painting Announcement
Spring has sprung so outdoor work has begun!
In the coming weeks, the painters will freshen up some striping in the parking lots and the pedestrian crosswalks across the campus. Please use caution when driving in areas where painting is being done.
Michels Named to CSC Academic All-District Team
UIS senior Carly Michels has been named to the 2024 Academic All-District® Volleyball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
To qualify for this prestigious honor, nominees must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale and meet strict participation requirements, including playing in 90 percent of their institution's games or starting in 66 percent.
