Everett M. Rogers is the leading expert on the diffusion of innovation theory. His theory will be used to examine whether e-business constitutes innovation. Five characteristics of innovations, as defined in RogersТ model, are compared with the characteristics of electronic business. A determination is made on how well RogersТ five characteristics of innovations fit with the characteristics of e-business. The applicability of RogersТ diffusion model for the rate of adoption of e-business will be examined in detail. The results of this study indicate similarities between RogersТ model characteristics of an innovation and e-business characteristics. The results also indicate that the rate of adoption of e-business matches RogersТ model. The survey results reviewed for this study, reveal that most of the 100 e-business companies that surveyed have positive assessment of e-business. It is hoped that this and similar studies will help practitioners and researchers to understand applicability of the RogersТ model for diffusion of e-business.
