Wallace</strong> is<strong> </strong>Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Illinois-Springfield, and Professor of English. She is a graduate of Swarthmore College (BA) and the University of California, Santa Cruz (MA/PhD) in Literature. As a proud liberal arts graduate, she advocates for the value and impact of academic study, art making and performance, public presentations, and study abroadâ¿¿noting their impact on self-confidence, intellectual curiosity, and personal and professional growth.</p><p><br></p><p>She has written extensively on late eighteenth-century British writers who used fiction to advocate for political reformâ¿¿most notably in <em>Revolutionary Subjects in the English â¿¿Jacobinâ¿¿ Novel</em> (2009) (which was supported by an NEH College Teacher Fellowship). More recent work explores Romantic-era public speaking as depicted in satirical prints, literature, and popular cultureâ¿¿particularly by those formerly excluded from rhetorical training by virtue of class, sex, gender, race, educational level, or disabilities. She was Principle Investigator for an NEH Humanities Connections Planning Grant to build a new â¿¿concentrationâ¿¿ in Health, Culture and Societies from 2021-2022 with colleagues in Epidemiology, Anthropology, History, and Physiology/Medicine. She continues as co-editor of the â¿¿Transits: Literature, Thought, and Culture 1650-1850â¿¿ series with Bucknell University Press with Dr. Mona Narain. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Communications and Digital/Multimedia Design, as well as a Master's in Information and Communication Technology from the University of Denver. In November 2019, Jessica joined the University of Illinois Springfield as the Director of Web Services. Additionally, she is the owner and president of Resolute Design and Development, a web design and development company based in Illinois.</p><p>As the Director of Web Services, Jessica Baumberger is responsible for managing the architecture of the UIS website and ensuring that it performs optimally to help the university achieve its strategic marketing and recruitment goals. Collaborating with the Campus Relations unit, Jessica develops strategies to improve user experience (UX), optimize search engine rankings (SEO), and raise UIS' online profile.</p><p>Jessica manages web standards and user-access controls, oversees the training of web authors and editors, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and university web standards for security and accessibility. She also leads the Web Services team and student workers and supports strategic marketing efforts through effective design and content presentation. Additionally, she contributes to monthly data analytics reports and collaborates with representatives from all units, colleges, and divisions at UIS, as well as relevant units on the Urbana and Chicago campuses and U of I System administration.</p><p>Jessica stays up to date with emerging technologies and tools to ensure that UIS stays at the forefront of web development. She is a strong advocate of AI and is exploring ways to use this technology to enhance UIS' web presence. He earned his Ph.D. in Planning, Policy, and Design at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Funderburg also holds a Master of Public Policy and Administration degree from California State University, Sacramento. Professor Funderburg is an expert on state and local economic development policy. He has published over 15 studies of economic development in peer-reviewed urban planning and regional science journals. Professor Funderburg has extensive experience advising state and local governments, including appointments with the California Department of Finance and the California Employment Development Department. Dr. Funderburg is actively engaged in the local community, where he serves as a commissioner on the Village of Chatham Planning Commission.
