One of its most valuable uses is providing detailed, actionable feedback. This webpage will guide you on how to prompt GenAI models effectively to obtain high-quality feedback and improve your overall results.

Why Ask for Feedback?

Feedback from GenAI can help you:

Spot errors and inconsistencies in your content.

Refine the structure and flow of your ideas.

Enhance clarity and readability.

Identify areas where more detail or explanation is needed.

Gain alternative perspectives or creative suggestions.

Effective feedback leads to improved outcomes, whether you're working on a blog post, a technical report, or a creative project.

How to Prompt GenAI for Feedback

Step 1: Clearly Define Your Goals

Before asking for feedback, know exactly what you’re trying to achieve. Are you improving grammar, enhancing persuasiveness, or seeking structural changes? Clarity will help the GenAI model provide relevant suggestions.

Step 2: Provide Context

Share as much context as possible about your content. This includes:

The target audience.

The purpose of the piece.

Any specific requirements or tone of voice (e.g., professional, casual, humorous).

Step 3: Craft Specific Prompts

Vague prompts lead to vague responses. Instead, tailor your prompt to your needs. Here are examples:

General Feedback: "Please review this article and suggest improvements in grammar, flow, and structure."

Focused Feedback: "Can you suggest ways to make this introduction more engaging for a younger audience?"

Critical Analysis: "What are the weaknesses in this argument, and how can I address them?"

Style Enhancements: "Does this text align with a formal tone? If not, how can I adjust it?"

Step 4: Break Content into Sections

If your content is lengthy, ask for feedback on specific parts. For example:

"Please analyze the clarity of the third paragraph in this essay."

This ensures detailed and manageable responses.

Techniques to Improve Prompts

1. Use Examples

Provide examples of what you’re aiming for. For instance:

"I want this paragraph to sound more persuasive, similar to this example: [Insert example]."

2. Include Guidelines

If you have style guides or specific instructions, mention them. For example:

"Please review this text for adherence to APA formatting."

3. Iterate and Refine

Don’t stop at one round of feedback. Incorporate suggestions and ask for further refinement. For instance:

"I've revised the introduction based on your suggestions. Can you check if it’s now engaging enough?"

Example Feedback Prompts

Feedback on Clarity

"Please identify any sentences or ideas in this article that are unclear and suggest improvements."

Tone Adjustment

"Does this paragraph strike the right tone for a professional audience? If not, how can I improve it?"

Grammar and Style Check

"Are there any grammatical errors in this text? Suggest edits to make the style more consistent."

Structural Feedback

"Is the progression of ideas in this essay logical? How can I improve the flow?"

Your Turn

Using GenAI effectively for feedback can significantly enhance your work. By crafting specific, goal-oriented prompts and providing sufficient context, you can tap into its potential to refine your ideas, correct errors, and elevate the quality of your content. Iterative feedback helps you ensure feedback is relevant and actionable and improves your own critical thinking and evaluation skills. These tools use advanced artificial intelligence to generate, edit, and customize videos based on text prompts, images, or other inputs. Whether you need a marketing video, an explainer, or social media content, GenAI tools can make the process seamless and quick.

How to Use GenAI Video Tools

The process of creating videos with GenAI tools generally follows these steps:

Step 1: Define Your Objective

Before diving into video creation, it’s important to define the purpose of your video. Whether you’re aiming to promote a product, create a tutorial, or tell a story, having a clear vision will guide the creative process.

Step 2: Choose the Right Tool for Your Needs

GenAI tools vary in capabilities, so it’s essential to pick one that suits your project. Some tools specialize in text-to-video creation, while others offer avatar-based presentations, animation, or editing.

Step 3: Input Your Content

Once you have a tool in mind, start by inputting the basic content:

Text Prompts: Many tools allow you to describe the video you want in a few sentences. The AI will generate visuals based on your prompt.

Images/Artwork: You can upload images or artwork that you want the AI to animate or include in the video.

Scripts: Some tools require you to input a full script or voiceover, which the AI will match with appropriate visuals.

Step 4: Customize Your Video

After the AI generates the first version of your video, you’ll have options to customize the content further. This might include:

Adjusting animations and transitions.

Selecting different themes or styles.

Changing the background music or sound effects.

Adding text overlays, captions, or subtitles.

Step 5: Preview and Make Adjustments

Once the video is generated, preview it and check if it aligns with your vision. Many GenAI video tools allow you to make multiple iterations, so you can fine-tune the content as needed.

Step 6: Export and Share

When you're satisfied with the final video, export it in your desired resolution and format. Most tools offer common video formats (e.g., MP4) that you can easily share on social media platforms, websites, or use for presentations.

Popular GenAI Video Tools

There are several AI-powered tools to choose from, each offering unique features tailored to different needs. It is a tool that is here and will not be going away. There are affordances, challenges, and risks related to using these technologies. As a university, we believe that we need to learn to use AI technologies and to teach our students to use and understand them in productive and balanced ways.

One risk, for instance, that ChatGPT and other large language models (LLM) will always have is the potential to generate unsubstantiated or untrue content, even though this risk may be diminished as the tools develop. It is a race that isn't winnable by educators. The generative AI detectors will always be catching up to the tools. There is a significant negative impact on students when AI detectors present false positives. Research has also shown that AI detectors are more likely to label text written by non-native English speakers as being written by generative AI (Myers, 2023). Turnitin has said that it has a 1% false-positive rate for AI detection. If that is true, then out of 4,000 papers submitted by UIS students each term, 40 students could be falsely accused of cheating with generative AI tools.

Becoming the cheating police does not teach our students to value their voice, agency, and creativity. Rather, we need to encourage our students to view conversational AI as a tool. Conversations and classroom activities that demonstrate intentional uses for AI are effective strategies with many students.

The UIS Academic Integrity Council sent a guidance memo on generative AI and student work to UIS faculty on April 3, 2023.

In classroom discussion and reflection on AI, we need to position humans -- instructors and students! -- as experts and critics of the tool and its output. We recommend reinforcing that position often.

Students who are intrinsically motivated to learn are not likely to cheat. To encourage intrinsic motivation, try to provide room and support for autonomy, mastery, and purpose in your assessments.

Allow students to self-direct a portion of the assignment. Can you allow them to pick a topic or direction? Can they customize it to address a project at work or to further research in a favorite topic?

Scaffold your large assignments to provide students the confidence that completing the assessment is possible. Hopeless students who aren't sure what to do next are more likely to cheat.

Tell your students your "why." What is the purpose of the work? What will it enable them to do in your field, later in the class, at a job. Let them know why they should care about this work.

Review your assessment and activities. Are they asking students to recite facts? If so, those are easy targets for AI chatbot use. Try to put a twist on those assessment: add an element of comparison; ask students to reflection on their own experiences; or add a local twist. These types of work are beyond the capabilities of current AI chatbots.

Another effective action is to create explicit assignment instructions that address what you view as appropriate uses of AI in each of your assignments and what you view as cheating. This keeps your knowledge of AI tools centered and provides students guardrails for their behavior. Show students that using AI tools can save time and reduce busywork without relinquishing their agency and voice and missing opportunities for growth and learning.

Even if you do all of this, some some will still cheat. It will happen. What are instructors to do?

First, get to know AI writing style. We suggest using ChatGPT and other conversational AI tools to learn to recognize the consistent output (writing style) of the chatbot. Your observations will be your strongest tool.

Second, check the suspected writing with several tools. When you suspect AI writing is being used, we recommend feeding a large amount of the suspected text into several detectors to compare the results. Longer pieces of text (250+ words) provide more evidence for the detector to consider and view patterns in the writing. Know that the detectors are fairly easy to trick. With some light editing and error introduction, you can easily change the results from "likely an AI chatbot" to "likely human." Also, beware that creative outputs from ChatGPT (write in an accent/style, write a poem or lyrics) aren't detectable by these tools.

Third, have a conversation with your student(s). Ask them if they used an AI chatbot in their work. Some student work can sound stilted like AI chatbots. They may not have cheated. Since it is a tool and not a source, using chatbots isn't plagiarism. It can be a gray area for students if you haven't specifically addressed it in class or in your syllabus. Consider giving them a chance to redo the work after the conversation. Tell them the consequences for using an AI chatbot moving forward (zeroes, academic integrity violations, etc).

The AI Detectors

Search Engine Land released a comparison of AI detectors. AI detection tools “grade content based on how predictable the phrase choices are within a piece of content.” Does the text align with the likely pattern AI would in creating the content? The AI detectors generally look at two qualities:

Burstiness: A predictable length and tempo to sentence structure.

Perplexity: A randomness to the words chosen in a sentence or collection of sentences.

CopyLeaks is a mainstream plagiarism detection tool that developed an detector to recognize human writing (as opposed to AI writing). They advertise a 0.2% false positive rate. They offer a free Chrome extension.

GPTzero was developed by Princeton undergrad Edward Tian, and also uses GPT4. You may upload entire files to this tool in addition to copy and pasting text. It uses "perplexity" and "burstiness" scores for rating writing as human or AI authored.

Turnitin released a beta tool for AI detection in March 2023. It was available at no cost while in beta. In January 2024, it became a separate paid service and is no longer available in our Turnitin subscription.

Select AI Articles and Resources

AI and Education Articles

Assisted Vs Autonomous AI for Educators: How different AI models could impact the what, why & how of our roles by Philippa Hardman, January 2024

Educause published "7 Things You Should Know ý Generative AI" and a conversation on "Students Perspectives on Using AI" in December 2023. Here are three of the most important:

Expansion of the Universe and Dark Energy: Hubble played a crucial role in determining that the universe's expansion is accelerating, leading to the discovery of dark energy. This mysterious force, making up about 74% of the universe's mass-energy content, remains one of the biggest enigmas in physics. Understanding dark energy is pivotal for grasping the future of the universe and has fundamentally altered our comprehension of cosmology.

Age and Evolution of the Universe: By observing distant galaxies and refining the Hubble Constant, the telescope helped pinpoint the age of the universe at approximately 13.7 billion years. Hubble's ability to look deep into space, and thus back in time, has allowed astronomers to study the formation and evolution of galaxies and star systems, providing insights into the universe's history and development.

Black Holes in Galaxies: Hubble's observations have revealed that supermassive black holes reside at the centers of most galaxies. The tight correlation between the mass of these black holes and the properties of their host galaxies has shed light on the co-evolution of galaxies and black holes, revolutionizing our understanding of galaxy formation and dynamics.

These discoveries are just a few examples of how Hubble has transformed our knowledge of the cosmos, continuing to influence astronomical research and our understanding of the universe's fundamental properties.

Sources: 17 Amazing Hubble Discoveries; Hubble's 10 Most Significant Discoveries; Britannica Hubble Space Telescope

Resource type

ai

Prompt Type

zero-shot

Prompt Category

research and development

Thu, 25 Jul 2024 14:46:03 +0000 jbaum02s 33436066 at Data Analysis Prompt /resource/ai/data-analysis-prompt Data Analysis Prompt jbaum02s Wed, 07/24/2024 - 13:35

Prompt

"Conduct a sentiment analysis on the following set of customer reviews for a new product.
