Amelia Hinkle of Springfield has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for the fall semester of 2025 and awarded a $24,000 Star Scholar Award for tuition over four years. At UIS, she will major in environmental studies.
The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
In high school, Hinkle was involved in multiple organizations, including National Honor Society, Principal鈥檚 Advisory, Superintendent鈥檚 Roundtable, Spirit Club, Student Government and soccer.
鈥淚 have established many opportunities within my hometown, and I wanted to stay here to continue them,鈥� she said.
After graduation, Hinkle plans to work at the State Capitol and eventually run for political office.
All undergraduate first-year students are automatically eligible for Star Scholar First Year Scholarships. To receive $24,000 over four years, the student must have an unweighted GPA of 3.75-3.99.
