DeCicco Delivers Complete-Game Gem as Prairie Stars Advance
Mark DeCicco delivered a complete-game masterpiece to lead Illinois Springfield to an 8-0 victory over Quincy on Friday afternoon at the GLVC Championship Tournament. The Prairie Stars' ace kept the Hawks off the scoreboard throughout, securing his seventh win of the season and propelling UIS deeper into the winner's bracket. With the win, UIS improves to 35-15, while Quincy drops to 26-26 on the season.
Brinkley Named NFCA All-Region
UIS softball third baseman Ella Brinkley has been named to the NFCA Division II All-Midwest Region Second Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Brinkley was named First Team All-GLVC this season, her third career all-conference nod and first time making the top team. This marks her first career all-region honor.
UIS Baseball Wins Opener at GLVC Tournament
The Illinois Springfield baseball team started its postseason with authority on Wednesday, defeating seventh-seeded Missouri S&T 10-3 in the opening round of the 2025 GLVC Championship Tournament. Fueled by Esteban Hernandez's strong start on the mound and two home runs from Ivan Dahlberg, the Prairie Stars moved on in the winner's bracket.
Women’s Golf Wraps Up Season at NCAA East Regional
The Illinois Springfield women's golf team wrapped up its 2024-25 season on Wednesday at the NCAA Division II East Regional, finishing 17th out of 18 teams. Elaine Grant led the Prairie Stars individually, tying for 11th overall.
The day began with tight competition around the top five teams—positions that would ultimately decide both team qualifiers and which individuals not on advancing teams would earn bids to nationals.

Prairie Stars Return to Marion for GLVC Baseball Tournament
The Illinois Springfield baseball team has secured the No. 2 seed in the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championship Tournament and will face seventh-seeded Missouri S&T in the opening round on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in Marion, Ill. The matchup is game three of the tournament, hosted for the third straight year at Mountain Dew Park.
A win would advance UIS to Thursday's 4:00 p.m. game, while a loss would place them in the tournament's first elimination game at 9:00 a.m. Thursday.
Kattula and Miller Among Major Award Winners at 2024-25 Night of Stars Banquet
UIS Athletics hosted its annual Night of Stars banquet on Monday, April 28, in the Student Union Ballroom, celebrating the 2024–25 athletic year and presenting 12 major departmental awards along with two team awards per sport.
More than 250 Prairie Stars student-athletes, coaches, and staff members gathered to recognize the excellence, leadership, character, and academic achievement that define the UIS athletics experience.
