The UIS men's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw against No. 7-ranked Saginaw Valley State on Sunday afternoon at Kiwanis Stadium.
The Prairie Stars came out strong, building a 2-0 lead in the first half. Corne Boshoff converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute, and Adam Knaze followed with a goal in the 23rd minute to give UIS an early cushion against the nationally ranked opponent.

The Tigers struck early, breaking through in the 13th minute on a goal from Selis Demirci. Tiana Trahan doubled the lead just after halftime, and Emily Callahan added an insurance goal in the 68th minute.

The Illinois Springfield men's cross country team captured the team championship at the 10th Annual Prairie Stars Invitational on Friday evening, scoring 25 points to top the field in the 7K race at the UIS Cross Country Course.
UIS packed seven runners inside the top 10 overall, led by newcomer Colin Graham, who placed third in 21:56. Joey Karlesky and Noah Tegeler joined him in the top five, while Owen Whelan and Brock Loftus rounded out the Prairie Stars' scoring five.

Senior Madelyn Miller-Ross led the way, taking the individual title in a course-record time of 18:01.07. Her performance broke the previous UIS Cross Country Course women's 5K record of 18:21.2, set by a runner from Purdue Northwest at this meet in 2021.

The Prairie Stars created several chances, outshooting the Panthers 14-7 and holding a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Addison Wittenberg led UIS with four shots, including two on target, while McKenna Gahagan added three attempts. Carolyne Mathenia and Mallory Herber also registered shots on goal.Â

UIS showed resilience throughout the match. Makenna Cox paced the Prairie Stars' offense with 12 kills on a .346 hitting percentage. Kendall Johnson added six kills, while Erica Sledge contributed two. Sledge directed the attack with 17 assists.Â
The UIS women's soccer team is set to open its 2025 season with a pair of road matches, aiming to make a strong statement during its opening weekend in Owensboro, Ky. The Prairie Stars will face Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7:00 p.m., followed by a matchup against West Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 12:00 p.m. Both games will be played at Panther Field on Kentucky Wesleyan's campus.
