Please be advised that the Springfield Fire Department will perform a fire training simulation at the Sunflower 700 BuildingÌý²ú±ð²µ¾±²Ô²Ô¾±²Ô²µÌýTuesday, September 16 and continuing through Friday, September 19.
As part of the training, theatrical smoke will be used to simulate realistic fire conditions. This may be visible in and around the building during the training period.
Key Details:
Renovations will begin on September 8 on the 3rd floor of HSB to create a Centralized Lab Equipment Facility.ÌýRooms 329 and 330 will be transformed into a shared space for housing lab instruments accessible to all labs within HSB. Project completion is expected in February 2026.

The roofing contractor will have a crane on site again on Thursday morning, August 28, from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The crane will be positioned on the west side of Founders Residence Hall, just off Eliza Farnham Drive. The bus stop on that corner will remain open and accessible. The red rectangle on the included image indicates the approximate location for the crane.
Please use caution if you need to travel near the residence hall. Construction zones and equipment placement areas will be marked to assist with navigation and ensure safety.

The following are major site prepation and construction priorities for Library Commons each month.
The August 2025 edition of the F&S Newsletter highlights progress on campus construction and maintenance projects, along with operational updates for parking, classroom scheduling, and motor pool.
°Õ³ó±ðÌýPAC Tower 1 elevator was repaired today and is back in service. Unfortunately, Kone was not able to repair the PAC Tower 2Ìý²¹²Ô»åÌýBrookens library-side elevators, so both remain offline at this time.
We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.

The Tower 1 elevator is being taken offline temporarily pending inspection and operational assessment by Kone.
Please note that the Tower 2 elevator remains out of service due to issues obtaining the parts necessary to make repairs.
The Tower 3 elevator is open and available for use. The contractor is aware and able to assist as needed.
Please report any issues to facilities@uis.edu. And as always, don't hesitate to reach out with questions.
Cabling work for the VAV (Variable Air Volume) infrastructure on the 4th floor of UHB will begin on Wednesday, July 30, and is expected to continue for approximately 2-3 weeks. During this period, technicians will be working to install and configure the necessary cabling for the system.
Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions, but there may be work materials in the hallways and some areas may experience temporary fluctuations in room temperature.
Facilities and Services will oversee the inspection of fire alarm systems in the coming week. This is primarily a visual inspection, but there will be brief, intermittent activations of alarm horns and strobe lights as part of inspection procedures.
