I am writing to share important information about an essential plumbing infrastructure project that will temporarily affect the Public Affairs Center (PAC) and related operations for nearly two years. The water has been shut off to all floors of PAC Tower 2 due to an unexpected plumbing problem discovered this afternoon. Our crews are actively working on repairs.

Please note that Towers 1 and 3 are not affected, and their restrooms remain available for use.

We will share an update as soon as we have more information on the resolution timeline.

The annual fire drills for this year will be conducted on Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1 for the UIS campus. Please pay special attention to your building assembly points as some have been revised for the ease of assembly by location.

We are writing to inform you of inspections taking place this week in Brookens, Public Affairs Center, and University Hall as part of a facilities condition assessment effort led by the university system.

Work begins September 5 on the PAC Roof Replacement Project. Contractor equipment and materials will be staged in the lot on the southwest side of the building, near the loading dock and stage door.

For safety reasons, this lot will be closed to all non-contractor vehicles from September 4 to October 25, to provide a dedicated area for roofing crews to safely operate and work.

As we continue to experience extreme heat this week, City Water, Light & Power (CWLP) has issued a Maximum Generation Warning. This is due to the increased demand for electricity and a potential energy supply shortage from the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the regional electric grid operator for the central United States.

The replacement of a rooftop heating and cooling unit on the Student Life Building (SLB) is scheduled for this Wednesday, August 21. Work will begin in the early morning and may continue until late afternoon.

A crane will be in use for this project. Please avoid the work area and use alternate routes when possible.
