Valerie Udemba’s journey to earning her MBA at the University of Illinois Springfield is nothing short of inspiring. As an international student from Nigeria, she learned about different cultures and felt welcomed by the UIS community. This year, she’ll be using her voice as the student commencement speaker to represent and uplift the Class of 2025.

Now in its third year, the competition saw an impressive increase in student participation and school engagement.

I graduated with a BA in Accounting. UIS's flexible schedule and focusing on working students, which was not common at that time, was extremely important to me. I learned Accounting while at UIS, which led me to a 40 year career in all kinds of financial positions. I was a member of the Accounting Club.

What’s the most rewarding project you have worked on?
They are inviting you to submit your research in all areas related to behavioral and social finance/economics to the 18th International Conference of the BFWG to be held on Jun. 4-6 in London. As in previous years, the Conference promises to bring together a vibrant community of academics and practitioners in finance, economics, psychology, and decision sciences, featuring regular and poster presentations, academic and practitioner keynotes, and research awards.

Can you give me a brief timeline of how your career led you to UIS?
The University of Illinois Springfield team earned second place in the , hosted by the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS). The UIS team partnered with in Springfield.
The University of Illinois Springfield has released the names of the 698 students who made the Dean’s List for Spring Semester 2024.
A total of 104 students in the College of Business and Management; 320 students in the College of Health, Science and Technology; 109 students in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; 143 students in the College of Public Affairs and Education; and 22 non-degree seeking or undecided students made the list.
