The University of Illinois Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present “Consider a Disappearance,” an exhibition by Chicago-based artist and experimental filmmaker . “Consider a Disappearance” will open on Monday, Feb. 12 and run through Thursday, March 7. An opening reception will be held at the gallery from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15.

“The Struggle for Change,” a new exhibit by the University of Illinois Springfield’s Sangamon Experience, will tell the history of underrepresented people in central Illinois when it opens on Jan. 12 on the lower level of the UIS Public Affairs Center. The exhibition will run through Sept. 6.

WHAT: The University of Illinois Springfield will host former U.S. Ambassador Charles Ray who will speak about a new report, “Blueprints for a More Modern U.S. Diplomatic Service.” The report includes recommendations on ways the United States can improve its diplomacy. The program is sponsored by the UIS School of Politics and International Affairs and the World Affairs Council of Central Illinois. The event is open to the public.

The University of Illinois Springfield’s Center for State Policy and Leadership (CSPL) will discuss the important work it’s doing to promote the public good during its annual showcase event on Thursday, Sept. 14 in the UIS Student Union Ballroom. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with networking and a breakfast, followed by the program from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

The University of Illinois Springfield’s popular Friday Night Star Parties will resume the Friday after Labor Day and run through the end of October. Those dates include Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29 and Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Friday Night Star Parties are held from 8 to 10 p.m., weather permitting, at the UIS Observatory on the roof of Brookens Library.
