A major in psychology provides knowledge of human behavior that prepares individuals for careers in health care, government, business, industry, research and education. Psychology majors share a desire to understand human nature and to have a positive impact on society.

UIS Psychology co-hosts Send Silence Packing display

UIS hosted the nationally touring Send Silence Packing display on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024. The all-day event, held on the UIS quad, aimed to inspire action for suicide prevention and connect participants with local and national mental health resources. Organized by the UIS Active Minds student chapter, the Department of Psychology, the Volunteer and Civic Engagement Center, and the Counseling Center, the display encouraged conversations about creating a positive community climate for mental health.

In May 2022, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences conferred awards to graduating seniors for their outstanding contributions to CLAS departments. Participating in Research for Extra Credit Policy

During some semesters, students in Psychology courses may be permitted to volunteer for and participate in approved research projects in order to receive course-related extra credit points (at the instructor’s discretion). Your participation in research is optional.

Proper cancellation etiquette

If you need to cancel your research appointment, you should give the experimenter at least 2 hours’ notice (to allow us time to contact our research assistants and keep them from making unnecessary trips).
