Laila Ikeard of Springfield has been admitted to the University of Illinois Springfield for the fall semester of 2025 and awarded a $20,000 Star Scholar Award for tuition over four years. At UIS, she will major in psychology.
The scholarship is awarded based on high school GPA and can be renewed if the student maintains college GPA requirements.
In high school, Ikeard was involved in the National Honor Society and track and field.
鈥淯IS is affordable and welcoming,鈥� Ikeard said. 鈥淚 have many friends attending and feel like I can make more meaningful connections.鈥�
After graduation, she plans to pursue a career as a travelling therapist.
All undergraduate first-year students are automatically eligible for Star Scholar First Year Scholarships. To receive $20,000 over four years, the student must have an unweighted GPA of 3.50-3.74.
