Google Assignments allows UIS instructors and students to use their Google accounts to create and submit assignments. This tool is built right into Canvas assignments but provides users with all the benefits of Google Docs, Google Sides, and other documents created in Google Drive.

Choose how to grade
With Google Assignments, you can grade the assignment using the Google interface, or you can stick with Canvas SpeedGrader. Both options will allow you to make use of annotation features to provide personalized feedback to students and will sync directly to the gradebook.
Create easy-to-use templates
If you want students to format a document in a certain way or to include certain content in their submissions, you can design templates and attach them to the assignment. Every student will get their own copy of the template and will be able to modify their own version of the document. Templates created in this way are must more mobile-friendly than their Microsoft Office counterparts.
Track changes on the document
Google Assignments allows you to see who worked on a document, when they worked on it, and what changes they made. This can help mitigate cheating or AI use, since this information can be accessed by all users. Additionally, any previous version of the document can be restored, so there is less chance of losing your work.
Retain access to documents
Files are automatically stored in Google Drive for both you and your students. As an instructor, you can see student work from term-to-term by looking at the automatically-created Google Drive folders. Students retain the ability to see their work, which can be valuable for portfolios or preparation for closing exercises and exams.
