Springfield road conditions remain hazardous as snow total tops 11 inches in area

Road conditions in Sangamon County remained hazardous Thursday as Winter Storm Landon continued to dump snow on the area. More than 11 inches had fallen by Thursday afternoon. The storm particularly created havoc with government and travel by car, train and plane. Local highways continued to be called hazardous by police. They urged residents only to drive in case of an emergency. |

The University of Illinois Springfield women’s basketball team surprisingly but justifiably swarmed Lauren Ladowski prior to Thursday’s tip against Quincy at The Recreation and Athletic Center. A pregame ceremony at midcourt presented the four-year junior guard with a plaque after nabbing the school’s all-time scoring record the previous week at Rockhurst. She beat Megan Bergerud’s mark of 1,348 points set from 2010 to 2014. |

UIS to offer more than 40 accelerated courses starting March 21

The University of Illinois Springfield will offer more than 40 accelerated courses in a variety of formats, including online and on-campus, for prospective and current students. All classes will begin Monday, March 21, and will conclude in May. “This is a great opportunity for new UIS students to start or finish their education,” said UIS Interim Chancellor Karen Whitney. “It’s also a chance for current students to add to their course load and potentially earn their degree in a shorter period of time.” |

2.7.22 Dear Colleagues – It is hard to believe we are officially midway through winter. The snow on campus is beautiful. Many thanks to everyone who worked incredibly hard last week to keep UIS open during inclement weather. While we may have canceled on-ground classes for two days last week, many of our programs and services continued through the storm. Thank you to all employees who kept facilities open and warm, the snow cleared and food available for students who call campus home. New Information |
