Accreditation
Accreditation in the United States is a voluntary process by non-governmental units, such as institutional agencies or professional associations. These organizations establish criteria and procedures for evaluating the quality of education offered by institutions or academic programs.
There are two types of accreditation:

The Human Development Counseling Program strives to educate traditional and non-traditional students with a primary goal to prepare highly competent Professional Counselors who are able to work with diverse populations, in various settings in Central and Southern Illinois. More specifically, we strive to prepare School Counselors to function within K-12 settings; Mental Health and Marital, Couple and Family Counselors to operate within community agencies, hospitals, drug treatment facilities, and institutions providing professional counseling and consulting services.
Human Development Counseling
The Department bases its program on belief in the inherent worth and dignity of each person, the importance of developing self awareness, and continuing personal growth throughout the lifespan.
Graduates of the program help persons as individuals, couples, or as members of a family. Students in the HDC program choose from one of three concentrations: Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, or Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling.
