Congratulations on your admission to UIS! We want to make your transition to UIS as easy as possible.
Step 1: Set up your UIS Account
A couple of days after you receive your offer of admission, you will receive an email with steps to set up your UIS account. It will have an 8-digit code (activation toke) and a link to the UIS Account/Register Your Identity Website. This is where you will obtain your UIS NetID and set up your password. Your NetID will be your user name to access all UIS systems, so don't forget this!
Step 2: Connect with your Designated School Official (DSO)
As an international student, you will work closely with the Office of International Student Services. Each student is assigned to a DSO, based on the first letter of your family name. They will also be your primary contact on campus throughout your time at UIS. The DSO will assist you in obtaining your Form I-20, which is needed to book your visa appointment. You can also learn more about life on campus and in Springfield through the ISS.
Step 3: Say "Yes" to UIS
Accept your offer of admission through your admissions status page. This will let us know you are coming so that we can connect you with other offices on campus
Step 4: Arrange Housing
All first and second year undergraduate students are required to live on campus. However, we encourage international students to live on campus. This will provide you with a safe, convenient location to live and learn. More information about our residence halls can be found on the Residence Life website. Housing should be arranged before you leave your home country. Springfield offers limited rental space for international students and does not have any hostels available.
Step 5: Sign up for Orientation
The Office of International Student Services provides a mandatory orientation program during the week before classes start each semester. You will receive more information about this from the ISS after you confirm your enrollment.
