How can I see my Financial Aid awards?

Can I make changes to my Orientation reservation?

Yes, we understand that things come up during the Summer. Please email us with the date you want to cancel and indicate your new preferred date. We will cancel your reservation and register you for the other date if it is still open. Do not register for another session online, this will lead to confusion and being registered and charged for two Orientation dates. Please note that once your cancel your reservation the reservation system automatically opens a spot in that date and someone else can register for that spot. So please be sure and check dates before cancelling anything.

How can I request a book from I-Share?
  1. Go to the .
  2. Search for the title, be as specific as you can. Use quotation marks if you know the exact title.
  3. This will open up Ex Libris Discovery. Before you do anything else, log in using your net ID and password.
  4. Select "All I-Share Libraries" and hit search.
  5. Filter appropriately on the left hand side of the screen. Do you need a book? DVD? etc. In this example, I want a book, so I would filter appropriately.
  6. Once you've found the item, selection "See All Versions."
  7. This page will show you all the versions available, choose the one you would like to request. In this case, I want the 2004 version. Now select "Check Available Services.
  8. The next page will provide information about the book. Scroll down and see the I-Share Availability. Under the sub-heading, "Get it from other I-Share Libraries," there will be a list of libraries that have the book available to loan. In this case, there is only one and it's currently out of the library. If you're not happy to wait, find another library.
  9. If they decide to request the book, select "Request from I-Share."
  10. Fill out the following form and hit "Request." Make sure the "Preferred Pickup Institution" is UIS, or somewhere of their choosing. Let the patron know they will receive an email when the book is ready to be picked up.
  11. A Patron can check the status of their I-Share request if they logging into the library search engine.

They can then sign in to their account. And view their requests here where an update will be available. It rarely gives a specific date when their book will arrive.

How can I make an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request?

You can make an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request as a UIS student, faculty, or staff member when a book is unavailable from Brookens Library and I-Share or when an article is unavailable in one of Brookens Library's databases.

How can I learn to write a grant proposal?

We occasionally offer workshops related to proposal writing. Any information on upcoming workshops can be found on the Additionally, we do many self-help publications on this topic. These can be checked out to patrons with an I-Card or a Special Borrowers card.

How can I keep track of what books I have checked out, when they are due, etc?

Every time you check out a book, you should receive an email from the library stating item titles and due dates. When these items are overdue or renewed, you will receive another email. Please make sure your library account is associated with an email address you often use. on how to see and edit your library account contact info.

How do I check my Library Account?

  1. You can check your via
  2. To see items you currently have checked out, click on the loans tab.
  3. To see any requests/holds you have made, click the requests tab.
  4. To see any fines/fees posted to your library account, click fines + fees.
  5. Additionally, if you have checked out items from other I-share libraries you may see more than one library listed under "my institutions" [squared in green in the image below]. By clicking on each library name, you will see the items loaned/requested from that particular institution.

How do I view/edit my contact info?
After logging into select the personal details tab to view the address and email linked to your account.

To edit this information, simply click the edit details button and click save changes after typing in the new information.

How can I get research help?

If you have a more detailed question and would like to speak to the librarian responsible for your subject, you can use our subject specific to help you. Click into a specific research guide to get the contact info for any of the librarians. You can even schedule an appointment directly with our automated appointment system.

How can I get an i-card?

Degree-seeking students, active faculty and staff, and many retirees are eligible for i‑cards. You may get your i‑card whenever you need it but there's no requirement to have or carry one. If you use your i‑card, make sure that it indicates your current role (student, faculty/staff, and so on).

Two ways to get an I‑card

Eligible employees and students always have two ways to get an i‑card:
  • Full service at Bring a and you'll get your photo taken and your i‑card printed while you wait. This process takes only a few minutes.
  • Online photo submission. in advance. After your photo is approved, stop by your ID Center with a to get your i‑card printed.

Not student, faculty, or staff? No worries, special borrower cards are also available. Scroll down until you get to Borrowing Privileges, and select either Alumni, Community, or Friends of Brookens.

Don't forget that all members of the community are welcome to access materials at Brookens Library and use the public computers. The only limitation is you can't check-out books without a special borrower card.

How can I check out a locker?

Faculty, emeritus faculty, students, staff, alumni, and friends are all able to check out lockers from the library. They are available for the duration of the semester.

Simply visit the library main desk (located on the 2nd floor of Brookens), and ask to check out a locker. After scanning your i-card or library card and filling out a brief form, you will be given a key and assigned a locker number. If you are unsure where the lockers are located, just ask our staff to show you!

The locker is then yours for the semester. Make sure to return the key at the end of this loan. Lost keys will result in a $25 replacement fee.
